The Association for Industrial Design (ADI), founded in 1956 with the aim of uniting professional figures active in the world of design, including designers, businesses, researchers, teachers, critics, and journalists, aims to promote and improve the design of goods and services through cultural debate, intervention with institutions, and the provision of services. ADI Lombardy represents the most important territorial delegation of the association. ADI has been a fundamental player in the development of industrial design, both as a cultural and economic phenomenon. In Italy, ADI National has over 1234 members residing throughout the national territory and since 1958 has managed the Compasso d’Oro Award, the oldest European award in the design industry.
